Our Story

2013

Inspired to action in 2013, architect Prasoon Kumar and venture capitalist Anurag Srivastava started BillionBricks to help address the global climate and housing crisis. BillionBricks was founded on the premise that the current solutions are failing and that we need to reinvent new ways to work on these challenging issues.

As a non-profit, BillionBricks embarked on its first project – a shelter for 100 street children in Mumbai, India. The company’s non-profit journey included emergency relief support in Nepal, community building projects in Cambodia, Malaysia, India, and the Philippines. BillionBricks has provided shelters, schools, homes, and emergency relief support to over 15,000 people across 9 countries.

2017

BillionBricks launched WeatherHYDE, an award-winning, life-saving emergency shelter. The project has received support from over 10,000 donors, volunteers, well-wishers and garnered over 100 million media impressions worldwide. We have broken new grounds in the fields of design, marketing, and philanthropy.

Hailed by Ashton Kutcher as “innovation at its finest”, WeatherHYDE won the President*s Design Award 2018 — Singapore’s highest honour for designers and designs across all disciplines. The judges noted that the emergency shelter is proof that projects with great social equity can improve lives whilst creating value for its users and designers.

2020 onwards

In 2020, BillionBricks pivoted to become a for-profit enterprise to advance the development of the world’s first self-financing solar homes. By innovating building models, tapping on new energy technologies, and actively engaging homeowners, BillionBricks is able to provide sustainable, eco-friendly, and affordable homes that uplift entire communities.

With our partner, Engie, a global leader in energy generation and management, BillionBricks is building the first net-zero communities in the Philippines.
